Auto Repair Resources at the Library

car partsWhen you think of auto repair, the library probably isn’t the first place that comes to mind but we do have some resources that  could save you a trip to the repair shop.

Print materials:  We have most Chilton’s, Motor, and Haynes manuals for domestic/import cars/trucks

  • – Focused on the high-frequency repair procedures
  • – Lots of photographs – great for the layman

How to find these manuals:

  • – Go to our website: www.rochesterpubliclibrary.org
  • – Click on ‘Catalog’
  • – Type in make and model of auto
  •  -Select ‘Keyword Anywhere’ option
  •  -From the list of titles that appear, look at the ‘Call Number’ to find the book that includes the year of vehicle you need
  • – Click on the title of the book to see more information
  • – If the book is checked out, you may place a hold on it and you will be notified when it has been returned.

Electronic Resources: We have subscriptions for online databases which feature auto repair information

Auto Repair Reference Center (Ebsco)

  • Accessible from anywhere you have an internet connection (with a valid library card number)
  • Includes information on: accessories, air bags, air conditioning, brakes, clutches, diagnostics, drive axles, electrical, emission controls, engine cooling, engine performance, maintenance, recalls, steering, suspension, technical service bulletins, transmission servicing, wheel alignment, wiring diagrams
  • Covers most vehicles starting in the 1960s

Alldata Online

  • This database is only accessible from within the library
  • AllData Pro is an automotive diagnosis and repair reference for professional automotive technicians. It offers detailed manufacturer information for both basic and complex systems and components and contains such information as diagrams and exploded views, parts and labor costs, Technical Service Bulletins,  Technician’s reference, vehicle specifications, and much more.
  • Covers most vehicles starting from 1982
