The Children’s area continues its makeover

December 7, 2012

Chilrens TreeSeveral projects have been finished and several more are still in progress. The new carpet was installed this summer. The colorful layout, most especially the blue river, has been enjoyed by children. Over the past few months they have walked along the river, played with ducks in the river and even gone swimming (with the help of a little imagination).
The children’s information desk was opened in early August. It is nice for staff to be in the middle of the action and overhear the wonderful conversations happening at the nearby playhouse. During a recent morning on the desk not one, but three parents of small children stopped by the desk to tell staff “We LOVE the new library!”, “There is so much for us to do!” and “The kids love the library will all of the new stuff!”
The Art Room opened in September and 683 children and grownups made collages. During October, the Art Room had 812 visitors. In the first weeks a parent made a collage just for us that says “Thank you for this Art Room.”
The foot bridge has proven extremely popular, in fact, kids have called it “the most awesome bridge ever!” The best moment on the bridge so far was when a young mother and her preschooler played Three Billy Goats Gruff together; Mom was the troll.
Our new tree arrived the last week of November and we are expecting the new aquarium before the end of the year. The library recently received a grant from the Minnesota Children’s Museum to install a Smart Play Spot (early literacy play area), which will be completed by the end of February.
Stop by and visit the new and improved Children’s Division today!
