Calling all artists!

October 17, 2012

Altered BookWhen is a book more than a book? When it becomes an even greater art—and helps raise money for the Rochester Public Library Foundation.

For RPL Foundation’s upcoming Wit, Wisdom & Wine fundraising event, we are inviting area artists and craftspeople to create items made from books. Much like the Boys & Girls Club’s popular “Chair Affair” fundraising event, these creations would then be auctioned off (in a silent auction) to raise money for the Rochester Public Library Foundation.

Here are the details:

Rochester Public Library will provide the books. Just contact John Hunziker (507.328.2300 or to arrange a time to choose volumes from RPL’s large collection of donated books.

book lampsThen, you create your art—whether that means re-imagining the cover by painting over it, building a bookshelf, or hollowing out pages for a unique pencil case. Truly, your imagination and creativity is the only limit. Lamps? Side tables? Centerpieces? Serving platters? What can’t you make from a good book? Last year there was a donation of a gorgeous altered book.

Bring your completed project to the Rochester Public Library by the week of January 7, 2013 so that we can prepare it for the silent auction.

Promote yourself! The Rochester Public Library Foundation invites all participating artists and craftspeople to include business cards, brochures, or other hand-outs with their donations. Wit, Wisdom & Wine brings together about 200 attendees each year who would love to learn about your artwork!
