I forgot my library card at home!

June 14, 2012

I forgot my library card at home! Can I still check out books?

Yes, you can.

Please don’t take this as an encouragement to leave your library card at home. Public service desk workers prefer that you bring your card with you every time you come to the library. Things are faster and easier when you have your card. But I know that sometimes the card gets forgotten in the last jacket you wore, or put in your other purse, etc. It happens.

If you forget to bring your card you may still check out books if you have a photo ID that can be used to look up your account. There is a limit of five items at a time that you can check out this way. If you do this often enough, staff will begin to think you lost your card and encourage you to get a replacement card.
