You can help the Foundation help the library

May 31, 2012

At the moment that we persuade a child, any child, to cross that threshold, that magic threshold into a library, we change their lives forever, for the better. – Barack Obama

Book ScannerBack in the spring of 1996, the Rochester Public Library Foundation began its life with the goal of raising private funds for educational and informational resources and projects to enhance the Rochester Public Library. Since that time, support from the Foundation has enabled the library to, among other things, provide online homework assistance, purchase a digital reader/ printer/scanner, purchase additional books and other circulating materials, and develop a new online catalog.  With your support, the library continues to be forward-thinking in planning and creating for the future.

Express Check out machinesThe most recent example of this future thinking is in the Children’s Division. This area is undergoing some exciting changes in the next few months, starting with a brand new information desk.  New kid-friendly self-check stations will be conveniently located at the division’s entrance for parents and children to use. The décor throughout the department will be updated to reflect the color and feel of our new My Backyard mural. Early literacy play stations will be available to preschoolers and their grown-ups to enjoy, a discovery cart will welcome scientific exploration, and an art room will welcome creativity.

Mini story time kit - books, puppets, puzzlesOther changes include an updated Book Group in a Bag for Kids collection with several new titles, a new mini-storytime kit collection, and a display space for kids to share their personal collections. Our children’s program offerings will also be growing and changing this year with the addition of a Baby Storytime, Lego Club, art programs, Saturday Story times, Science kits, letter boxing and more!

These changes and enhancements would not be possible without your support.  Your gift is an investment not only in the future of the library but in the future of our children.  Please consider making a tax deductible donation today.  Your gift makes a difference!
