Alek gains confidence by reading to Tucker.

In 2006 we started a program called Sit-Stay-Read. This program encourages beginning readers to feel confident about reading by trying out their early reading skills on the most non-critical of all listeners: dogs.

That’s right. Therapy dogs, trained to be gentle, obedient and calm, sit next to the children as they read story books out loud to them. This program has been going strong ever since.

Read aloud for 20 minutes to a friendly therapy dog. Reading times are 6:30 p.m., 6:50 p.m. and 7:10 p.m. You may register for a specific dog and time on a first come first served basis begining at 6:00 p.m. the evening of the event. Space is limited. Only registered child and accompanying parent/adult should attend.

Sit-Stay-Read dates for October are:
Mondays, October 3, 10, & 17.
