Keeping track of what you’re reading

April 20, 2011

From the suggestion box: Create an online que for books I would like to check out and be able to view books I have read (like NetFlix)

Library Response: Thank you for your suggestion regarding the tracking of materials you have checked out.  This is an option that we would like to be able to offer patrons who wish to use it.  Do to privacy concerns and the storage of data long after its use, we only want to keep that data for patrons who specifically choose to have this stored.  Unfortunately, this is not an option offered by our library automation vendor at this time.  It is a feature that we have requested and regularly evaluate.

In the meantime, there are several free book databases available to help you track your reading.  They also have added features in linking you to other readers who share similar reading interests and lead to further book recommendations.  A couple of recommended sites include:

http://www.goodreads.com/

Thank you for your suggestion.  We will continue to consider this option as we work to improve the library’s automation software.
