“My Backyard” mural

April 18, 2011

Ballot box for children to vote on their favorite animals.Previously, I talked about the Children’s area getting a mural… Well, it’s happening soon!

Children are encouraged to vote on their favorite animals that they would like to have included in the mural. Ballot boxes can be found in the children’s area of the library and at the Quarry Hill Nature Center until May 1.

The painting of the mural will start on May 2 during the day giving everyone a chance to see an artist at work. Greg Preslicka was chosen to design and paint a unique mural of southeastern Minnesota wildlife called “My Backyard.” The mural will depict wildlife specific to the Rochester area and portray what children see in their own backyards, in our parks, and in our neighborhoods.

Quarry Hill Nature Center will be bringing some backyard surprises to share during their “Nature in my own Backyard” program at the library on Saturday May 14.

The mural and program were both funded in part or in whole with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. Sponsorship provided by SELCO.

If you have any questions about the mural or the program, call Children’s Services: 507-328-2303.
