Internet privacy from other patrons

December 22, 2010

Suggestion: Please tell patrons who reserve a computer after a person NOT to stand behind waiting for their turn. It makes one uncomfortable having strangers looking at personal info that you are working on.

Library response: I’m unclear if the issue is with patrons standing behind you when you are using an Internet PC or if there are patrons standing behind you when you are making a reservation.  I’m thinking that the issue is with the former.  No one should be standing directly behind someone at an Internet station waiting to get on since they do not know what Internet station they will be assigned to.  With the privacy screens  the patron would have to be directly behind you to read what’s on the screen.

I’m sorry this has happened to you.  If it happens again please let someone at the Reference Desk know and we will deal with the situation.
