Library Class – Ancestry and Heritage Quest

November 19, 2010

Genealogy Databases

One of my distant relatives has done extensive research on our family tree and his findings are interesting, to say the least. According to his research, one of our ancestors “lost’ our family crest (scandalous!) and another ancestor was tried for witchcraft in Salem Village, MA during the famous witch trials (Oh my!).

Find out if your ancestors were royalty, or just royal pains (hey, we can’t all be kings and queens).  Ancestry and Heritage Quest are two online databases that can help dig through census records, read family histories, and find out when your great-grandfather or his great-grandfather crossed the pond. Both databases are funded by the Friends of the Library. Ancestry is only available from within the library while Heritage Quest does not have that limitation.

There are two classes on the schedule that will help you learn how to use these databases.

Thursday, December 2 from 5:30 – 7:00 pm

Friday, February 11 from 10:00 – 11:30 am

These classes are free and open to the public, but space is limited. Register online, by calling 507-328-2309, or at the second-floor reference desk.
